Boat and Ship Yard News

Over on Seven Hundred Acre Island Dark Harbor Boat Yard was still battling the effects of the recent nor-easter. In fact they were unable to get out to the island on Monday the weather was so bad, and some employees were not able to get out from the mainland on Tuesday. Otherwise they had weathered the storm without incident.

This past winter they Awlgripped a 32-foot Bristol, which had some damage from a grounding. They also replaced her toe and bow rails.

They also built three booms for the Dark Harbor 20s, which are being built in fiberglass over in Thomaston. Presently they have four fiberglass boats sailing in the fleet, and John Gorham, manager of the yard, said that they were really nice boats to sail.

Still to do are four or five floats, one of which is for the yacht club, will be 20x40 feet.

In the yard are approximately 200 storage boats, which they need to have ready for the season. This more than keeps them busy, but they are also willing to take on major projects here and there during the winter months when time permits.
